WHAT TO EXPECT

Salaries vary in Thailand depending on your qualifications, experience and the type of teaching job you have. The basic TEFL wage for new teachers in Thailand is usually around 28.000 – 40.000 Baht ($850 – $1200) per month. Experienced teachers may earn much more than this.

Expenses shouldn’t be too high if you’re sensible. Local Thai food is very cheap. Expect to pay between 40 baht and 100 baht or so for a meal. Depending on the city you choose, a salary of $850-$1,200 should be enough to cover all of your expenses. Compared to other cites, both salaries and living costs are higher in Bangkok.

The school year in Thailand begins in May and ends in February. Schools have a semester break from late September to mid-October. Most hiring is done during February and March, or for the universities, in early August. Language schools usually hire throughout the year. Therefore, we have start dates every month.

TEFL teachers in Thailand should expect a 40-hour workweek. Teachers usually have a teaching load of 20-25 classes per week, depending on the school.
